Jury verdicts accounted for 2.7% of tort dispositions; individual versus individual most common litigant status, auto accidents and premises liability most common case types. Median awards modest in size but 3 x larger when defendant was business. Mean award almost 9 x larger than median on average. Punitive damages awarded in 6% of plaintiff victories, usually modest in size, most likely in contract cases (13%).
